I began my Education career 14 years ago in a traditional school in River Forest, Illinois. I earned a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Concordia University Chicago. I also hold a Montessori Primary certification from Seton Montessori Institute. While in Graduate school, my husband suggested that I look into Montessori. After research and several readings, I was sold on the practical methods of Montessori. I decided to pursue my own Montessori training shortly thereafter. In my free time, I love hiking trails in beautiful Riverside and spending time with my family.

Loss and the Young Child: Methods of Coping and Discovery

Most, if not all of us have experienced loss on some level. For some it has been the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job or the loss of freedom. For myself, it was the loss of my mom as a result of Covid. In addressing our grief with our 8-year-old, we were drawn to nature and moments of meditation. Montessori methods, including the prepared environment, observation, and hands on learning can also provide the young child ways to cope.
